Meaning: RESPECT

With more than 25 years of experience in digital design, I have honed my ability to bridge the gap between businesses and their customers.

Originally, I thrived in the vibrant energy of New York City, where I spent the first 18 years of my career immersed in its creative atmosphere. However, I now call a picturesque coastal town in Eastern North Carolina home. Here, I draw inspiration from the simplicity of nature and cherish moments spent exploring nearby rivers and beaches with my family.

In 2008, I founded Ashalla Design Shop, where I lead a team of professional creatives, foster numerous partnerships, and deliver exceptional results for countless clients.

Meaning: TO OPEN

At Ashalla Design Shop, I oversee research and copy across a variety of design channels, from websites and print ads to marketing campaigns and branded materials. I ensure that every word aligns with the project’s goals and the brand’s voice. Simply put, I help to pour intention, care, and attention to detail into every project, making sure each message connects with the audience and strengthens the brand.

Before joining Ashalla Design Shop, I served as Editor-in-Chief and later Marketing/Sales Director for ILF Publications. I was part of the team that published several monthly magazines—promoting hundreds of local businesses across Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. Today, these magazines, including The Georgian, The Hilltonian, and The Alexandrian, are archived at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

I earned my BFA and MFA degrees from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. There, I was introduced to Labanotation—a system for analyzing and recording movement, often described as the written language of movement—and developed a lifelong passion for movement literacy. This passion continues today through running a fitness and movement studio. I also recently wrote and published the book Your Body, The Movement Instrument through ISMA Publishing.

I recently graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in Interior Design and a minor in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University. My achievements include recognition and awards for excellence in leadership, community building, customer service, and strategic planning and implementation.
